Natural Habitat
Found on a wide variety of host plants globally, but famously seeks shelter inside human structures and homes during cold weather.
Diet & Feeding
Herbivorous; uses piercing-sucking mouthparts to feed on various fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants.
Behavior Patterns
Known for its shield-like shape and marmorated (marbled) appearance. It releases a pungent defensive odor from scent glands when threatened or crushed. They overwinter as adults within buildings.
Risks & Benefits
Generally harmless to humans and pets, as they do not bite or sting. However, they are a major agricultural pest causing damage to crops and can be a significant nuisance pest in homes due to their odor and large numbers.
