Natural Habitat

Found in gardens, meadows, and agricultural fields throughout the southeastern United States.

Diet & Feeding

Herbivorous; feeds on xylem sap from a wide variety of woody and herbaceous plants.

Behavior Patterns

They are active jumpers and flyers. Females often deposit white chalky material (brochosomes) on their wings to transfer to eggs for protection.

Risks & Benefits

Generally a minor garden pest but can be a vector for Xylella fastidiosa, a bacterium that causes Pierce's disease in grapevines and other plant diseases.
