Black Ground Beetle

Found under stones, logs, leaf litter, and in agricultural fields, gardens, and sometimes wandering indoors.

Carnivorous, feeding on other invertebrates such as slugs, snails, caterpillars, and other insects.

Primarily nocturnal hunters that actively forage on the ground. They are flightless and rely on running quickly to catch prey or escape.

Beneficial to ecosystems and gardens as natural predators of pest insects and slugs. They do not bite humans readily, do not damage structures, and are generally harmless accidental intruders indoors.
