Fungus gnat (likely)

Moist potting soil, decaying organic matter, compost, and damp indoor areas; adults often rest on walls near houseplants.

Larvae feed mainly on fungi, algae, and decaying organic material in soil; some may nibble plant roots. Adults consume little, often taking moisture or nectar.

Adults are weak fliers and commonly walk or hover near plants; larvae develop in moist soil and can complete a generation in a few weeks under warm conditions.

Generally harmless to people and pets. Larvae help decompose organic matter but can damage seedlings and roots when populations are large.
