Behavior Patterns
Adults are capable of flight and are attracted to light. Females lay eggs on food sources, and larvae tunnel through the material as they feed. They have a symbiotic relationship with yeast that helps them digest low-nutrient materials.
Risks & Benefits
A major pest of stored products that can contaminate food through excrement and silk; they pose no health risk to humans or pets through biting or stinging, but infested food should be discarded.
