Bed Bug

Indoor human environments, particularly in seams of mattresses, bed frames, furniture cracks, and upholstered fabrics near sleeping areas.

Obligate hematophages; they feed exclusively on the blood of warm-blooded animals, primarily humans.

Nocturnal parasites that hide in tight seams and crevices during the day to avoid light. They emerge at night to feed, attracted by body heat and carbon dioxide. Females lay hundreds of eggs in secure crevices, often leaving behind dark fecal spots and shed skins.

Risks: Causes itchy, red bite welts, allergic reactions, anxiety, and sleep deprivation; infestations are difficult and costly to eradicate. Benefits: No known ecological benefits to human environments.
