Inchworm (Geometer moth caterpillar)

Found globally in gardens, forests, and urban areas wherever host plants (mostly trees and shrubs) are present.

Primarily herbivorous, feeding on the leaves of a wide variety of deciduous trees, shrubs, and garden plants.

Characterized by a unique looping movement caused by having prolegs only at the front and back of the body. Many species exhibit crypsis, mimicking twigs to avoid predators.

Generally harmless to humans; however, large infestations can cause significant defoliation of ornamental plants and crops. They serve as a critical food source for birds.
