Eastern Lubber Grasshopper

Open pinewoods, weedy vegetation, and horticultural gardens in the southeastern United States.

Polyphagous herbivore; feeds on a variety of plants including vegetables, ornamental plants, and citrus leaves.

Slow-moving and flightless due to small wings; can secrete a foul-smelling, frothy liquid from its thorax as a defense mechanism.

Often considered a nuisance pest in gardens; however, they provide food for certain specialized predators like the Loggerhead Shrike.
