Diet & Feeding

Polyphagous herbivore; feeds on a wide range of fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants using piercing-sucking mouthparts.

Behavior Patterns

Active from spring to fall; in winter, they seek shelter in masses inside buildings to overwinter. They emit a pungent odor from scent glands when threatened.

Risks & Benefits

Economic pest for agriculture causing significant crop damage. In homes, they are a nuisance and can cause allergic reactions in some individuals, though they do not bite or sting humans.
