Found indoors in dark corners, basements, and garages, as well as outdoors in barns, sheds, and under woodpiles where they build characteristic sheet webs ending in a funnel-shaped retreat.

Insects and other small arthropods that become trapped in their sprawling sheet webs.

They spend most of their time hidden inside the funnel retreat, waiting for vibrations in the web to signal trapped prey before rapidly rushing out to capture it.

Generally harmless to humans; while they possess venom to subdue prey, their bites are rare and minor. They are beneficial for controlling household insect pests like flies and mosquitoes.
