Green shield bug (green stink bug)

Vegetation, gardens, crops, and woodland edges, especially on broad-leaved plants in warm regions.

Adults and nymphs pierce plant tissues and suck sap from leaves, stems, flowers, and developing fruits or seeds.

Adults commonly overwinter in sheltered places, then reproduce on host plants; females lay clusters of barrel-shaped eggs. Nymphs pass through several stages and may emit a defensive odor when disturbed.

Feeding can blemish fruit, damage seeds, and reduce crop quality, making it an agricultural pest. It is not dangerous to humans, though its odor can irritate some people; it also serves as prey for birds and parasitoids.
