Cellar spider (likely long-bodied cellar spider)

Dark, sheltered indoor spaces such as cellars, garages, corners, and ceilings; also found in sheds and protected outdoor areas.

Predatory, feeding on flies, mosquitoes, moths, mites, and other spiders captured in irregular webs.

Builds loose, tangled webs and vibrates rapidly when disturbed, making it difficult to see. Females carry egg clusters in their jaws; several generations may occur annually indoors.

Generally harmless to people and not medically significant. Beneficial because it consumes household pests and other spiders; this specimen’s unusually robust body or short-looking legs makes exact identification from the image uncertain.
