Long-bodied cellar spider (daddy longlegs spider)

Common indoors in quiet, sheltered spaces such as ceilings, corners, basements, garages, and sheds; also found in vegetation outdoors.

Predatory, feeding on flies, mosquitoes, moths, mites, and other spiders. It captures prey in a loose, irregular web and may wrap larger prey with silk.

Builds tangled cobwebs and vibrates rapidly when disturbed, making its body difficult to see. Females carry a small cluster of eggs in their chelicerae; several generations may occur annually indoors.

Harmless to people and not considered medically significant. Beneficial because it consumes household pests and sometimes other spiders, though its webs can be nuisance or unsightly.
