Japanese Beetle

Found in gardens, parks, agricultural fields, and grasslands across North America, Europe, and Asia.

Adults skeletonize leaves by eating the tissue between veins, feeding on over 200 plant species; larvae (grubs) eat the roots of grasses.

Diurnal insects that are most active on warm, sunny days. They often aggregate in large numbers on a single plant due to pheromones and plant volatiles. They have a one-year life cycle involving subterranean larval stages.

Significant invasive agricultural and horticultural pest. They cause extensive damage to ornamental plants, fruit crops, and turfgrass. They offer little ecological benefit in non-native regions.
