Wheel bug (assassin bug)

Gardens, woodland edges, and other areas with shrubs or trees; adults may wander onto walls and pavement.

Predatory; pierces and feeds on caterpillars, beetles, and other insects.

A solitary ambush hunter; adults and nymphs may be seen during warmer months. Its slow movements and jagged, wheel-shaped crest are distinctive.

Helps control pest insects. It can deliver a painful defensive bite if handled, but is not medically dangerous.
