Obligate hematophage; feeds exclusively on human blood several times a day.

Wingless insects that crawl but cannot jump or fly; they attach eggs (nits) to hair shafts near the scalp with a glue-like substance.

Cause intense itching (pruritus) and scalp irritation; they do not spread disease but can cause secondary skin infections from scratching.
