Honey bee

Flower-rich habitats including gardens, meadows, orchards, and woodland edges; colonies nest in cavities or managed hives.

Adults consume nectar for energy and collect pollen to feed larvae. They process nectar into honey and transport it to the colony.

Highly social, living in colonies with a queen, workers, and drones. Workers forage over considerable distances, communicate food locations by dances, and pollinate many flowering plants.

They are major pollinators supporting crops and wild plants and produce honey and beeswax. Stings can cause pain and, rarely, severe allergic reactions; the image may also include similar-looking bees or hoverflies.
