Common around fermenting fruit, sugary drinks, trash, drains, and damp indoor areas. The pictured insect is too indistinct for species-level identification.

Adults feed on fermenting liquids, fruit juices, yeast, and microbial films; larvae develop in moist, fermenting organic material.

Adults are weak, hovering fliers attracted to odors and light. Females lay eggs on fermenting material, and development can be rapid in warm conditions.
