Japanese beetle

Gardens, lawns, agricultural fields, and wooded areas with an abundance of host plants.

Adults feed on the foliage, flowers, and fruits of over 300 species of plants. Larvae (grubs) feed on the roots of grasses and turf.

Adults are active during warm summer days, often feeding gregariously in groups. Females lay eggs in soil, where larvae develop underground before pupating and emerging as adults the following summer.

Adults are notorious agricultural and garden pests capable of skeletonizing leaves and damaging crops. Larvae can severely damage turfgrass roots in lawns. They offer no notable benefits other than serving as prey for various birds and small mammals.
