Homes, especially carpets, upholstery, closets, and areas containing lint or pet hair; also found outdoors on flowers.

Adults feed mainly on pollen and nectar. Larvae consume keratin-rich materials, including wool, fur, feathers, shed skin, and dried insects.

Adults are small, oval, and often mottled; larvae are hairy and avoid light. Larvae may damage stored textiles and can persist unnoticed in dark, undisturbed areas.

They do not bite or transmit disease, but larval hairs can cause itchy dermatitis or respiratory irritation and may damage fabrics. Adults pollinate flowers and help decompose animal debris outdoors.
