Goliath Beetle Larva (Preserved)

Tropical rainforests and savannas of equatorial Africa, typically found underground in rich soil or decomposing wood debris.

Larvae require a protein-rich diet compared to most scarab grubs, feeding on decaying organic matter, animal remains, or protein-rich soil detritus in the wild; adults feed primarily on tree sap and fruits.

Larvae undergo three instar stages over several months, building a sturdy cocoon out of soil to pupate before metamorphosing into adults.

Harmless to humans. They play a vital role in tropical ecosystems as decomposers, recycling nutrients back into the forest soil.
