Long-jawed orb-weaver spider

Usually found on vegetation near water, including wetlands, ponds, streams, and damp gardens; adults may wander onto buildings at night.

A predator of flying insects, especially mosquitoes, midges, flies, and small moths, captured in delicate orb webs.

Recognized by its elongated body, very long legs, and ability to extend its chelicerae forward. It is mainly nocturnal and may rest stretched along stems or walls during the day.

Generally harmless to people; bites are rare and medically insignificant. It benefits ecosystems by consuming mosquitoes and other flying insects.
