Diet & Feeding
Larvae develop inside whole grains (rice, corn, wheat, seeds); adults feed on the same grain products.
Behavior Patterns
Adults lay eggs inside a grain kernel which the larva eats from the inside out. They are strong crawlers and some species are capable of flight.
Risks & Benefits
Primary risk is the destruction and contamination of stored food products; they pose no direct physical health hazard or bite risk to humans.
