Found globally near human food supplies such as pantries, granaries, and kitchens; also in fields.

Larvae develop inside whole grains (rice, corn, wheat, seeds); adults feed on the same grain products.

Adults lay eggs inside a grain kernel which the larva eats from the inside out. They are strong crawlers and some species are capable of flight.

Primary risk is the destruction and contamination of stored food products; they pose no direct physical health hazard or bite risk to humans.
