Clings to hair strands using specialized claws. Crawls slowly and cannot jump or fly. Lays eggs (nits) cemented near the base of hair shafts.

Risks include scalp itching, irritation, and potential secondary bacterial infections from scratching. Does not transmit major disease pathogens.
