Adults and nymphs pierce conifer cones and seeds with sucking mouthparts, feeding mainly on developing seeds and sap.

Adults are strong fliers and may gather in sheltered places during autumn and winter. The hind legs typically have flattened, leaf-like expansions, though these can be difficult to see in a small photograph.
