Giant Leopard Moth

Woodlands, gardens, and farmlands across North America.

Larvae (caterpillars) feed on a wide variety of broadleaf plants including dandelions, violets, and honeysuckle. Adults generally do not feed.

Strictly nocturnal and attracted to lights. When threatened, they often curl up to reveal bright orange or blue markings on their abdomen as a warning.

Harmless to humans; caterpillars are not venomous. They serve as pollinators and a food source for nocturnal predators like bats.
