Great Golden Digger Wasp

Open fields, gardens, pastures, and sandy areas suitable for digging burrows

Adults feed on flower nectar. Females hunt katydids and grasshoppers to paralyze and stock underground burrows for their larvae.

Solitary, ground-nesting thread-waisted wasps. Females dig tunnels in sandy soil with multiple cells, provisioning each cell with paralyzed orthopterans before laying an egg inside.

Non-aggressive towards humans and rarely sting unless directly handled. They serve as beneficial native pollinators and help control pest populations of katydids and grasshoppers.
