Leaf-footed bug (likely squash bug)

Gardens, crop fields, wooded edges, and buildings near host plants; often found on squash, pumpkins, and other cucurbits.

Nymphs and adults pierce plant tissues and suck sap, especially from cucurbit stems, leaves, and developing fruit.

Adults overwinter in sheltered places and become active in warm seasons. They may enter homes accidentally, while females lay eggs in clusters on host plants.

Usually harmless to people and do not sting, though they can emit an unpleasant odor when disturbed. Heavy infestations may wilt plants, scar fruit, and transmit or facilitate plant disease.
